Holding the Horizon
Curiosity as invisible threads come to light
I recently opened a business line of credit.
No big deal, right?
A simple sentence.
An unexpectedly profound internal shift.
For the first time in three decades of entrepreneurship, my business has its own capacity to say yes.
To invest.
To respond.
To move without borrowing authority from my personal life.
There is nothing I need.
There is nothing I want.
And the presence of choice feels like a wide, clean horizon.
Then a thought drifted through. Soft. Uninvited. Curious.
I feel all grown up.
I’m legit.
I’m finally a real business.
I paused.
Thirty years in business.
Multiple cycles of reinvention.
Clients served. Impact made. Wealth generated and stewarded.
And still, a small inner ledger carries a line item labeled 'prove it.'
That identity did a beautiful job for a long time.
It kept things tight.
It kept me vigilant.
It kept me safe inside systems that rewarded over-responsibility and quiet compliance.
It also shaped how much I allowed myself to hold.
Because when a part of you believes legitimacy arrives after—
after the credentials,
after the applause,
after the proving—
expansion learns to wait.
Impact moderates its reach.
The body learns to hold back what it is already capable of carrying.
I let myself feel that truth with curiosity, without urgency or judgment.
I wondered what rooms might have opened sooner.
What ripples might have traveled farther.
What impact might have moved more freely if proof had been retired earlier.
And still, I trust the timing.
Some releases arrive only when the nervous system can host what follows.
Some identities dissolve right before the work widens.
Over the holiday break, I spent my days with the Pacific.
King tide mornings, the non-stop roar of crashing waves holding the horizon open.
Eyes on an endless ocean that never once asked to be justified.
Those surf-soaked meditations became a threshold.
A quiet holding.
A steady widening.
Each morning trained my body to stay open in the presence of scale.
To breathe while something vast moved without asking permission.
To let power exist without performance.
The Flirting with Infinity series rose from that posture.
Not as content, but as a calibration.
A place where a new identity could form without force.
Powerful.
Confident.
At ease inside its own legitimacy.
This old identity released itself gently.
No rupture.
No argument.
A quiet recognition that my expertise and legitimacy is no longer in question.
That vigilance has completed its tour of duty.
That my capacity has outgrown its early scaffolding.
I thanked that identity for every mile it carried me.
For every threshold it guarded.
For every season it helped me survive.
And then I let it go.
What arrived in its place feels settled.
Present.
Unconcerned with permission.
An identity shaped by scale rather than scrutiny.
Confident in its right to hold more.
Ready for what comes next because it already belongs here.
👉 Reflection Prompts
Where in your life has proof quietly been doing the job of safety?
What becomes possible when legitimacy is assumed rather than earned?
What does your body recognize when choice is present before need appears?
🔥 Daily Affirmation
I stand rooted in my authority and led by my own knowing.
I command capacity that rises to meet the scale of my vision.
I receive money as an eager, devoted ally.
I let wealth move through me with instinct, appetite, and pleasure.
I take up space, I claim overflow, and I hold more with calm confidence.
PS: Profit is Protest and so is seeing the threads for what they are.
The last gasp of an old identity.
Thank them for keeping you safe and then let them go.
January 23rd at 1:30 pm Pacific, I’m teaching a live, free masterclass called
Or Better Business Planning.
This is The Opening in practice.
The moment where intention widens, structure softens, and possibility is allowed to take direction.
We’ll work with real numbers and real strategy, held by a posture that knows how to receive.
If you’ve felt the field widen while reading this series,
this is where you step through.
